For this assignment, I watched 2 videos with Jad Abumrad: How Radio Creates Empathy and Digital Shamanism and Old-Fashioned, Newfangled Storytelling Magic. I also listened to “Moon Graffiti” on Soundcloud. All of these were very interesting to watch/listen to because they show how important audio storytelling is and how it forms connections, creates a picture, and has a lot of descriptive detailing.
The sounds in moon graffiti are extremely interesting. They really help you visualize and make you feel like you are at the moon landing. The sounds impact the mood because the more eerie the sounds are, the more eerie you feel. The sounds tell you where you are. It sounds like a spaceship in outer space. Now they are describing the moon and what it feels like and you can hear a camera click so you know they’re taking pictures. The sounds make you feel like you are really there experiencing it with them. If there were no sound effects or descriptive detailing, this story would either not make sense, people could not imagine/picture it, or it would be boring. It really shows how important these details are. The ideas in Abumrad’s videos definitely relate to this audio because with audio, they have to have a really good description with detail since you can’t see anything. You have to fill the gaps of there being no picture together, so it seems like you are creating a story together and it connects people.
